The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man in Ile-Oluji over a theft case that uncovered suspected human remains and ammunition, raising fresh concerns about ritual-related activities in the area.
The suspect, Awomehinde Tope, was apprehended on April 11, 2026, following a complaint that he allegedly stole several items belonging to his father, including three Boxer Bajaj motorcycles, nine goats, palm oil, four Android phones, two gas cylinders, gold items, and rug carpets.
Police investigations revealed that one of the stolen rugs had been sold to another individual, prompting a search operation at the suspect’s residence. During the search, officers reportedly recovered items believed to be of ritualistic and criminal significance, including a bone suspected to be human skeletal remains, native sponges, fetish charms, black soap, and an expended AK-47 shell.
The discovery led to the arrest of two additional suspects—John Vincent, 22, and Olakintan Oladele, 29—who were found at the residence of the buyer of the stolen rug. According to police, the suspects could not provide satisfactory explanations regarding the items recovered.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the origin and purpose of the suspected human remains and other exhibits. He said all suspects are cooperating with investigators and will be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
The police command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
