Police Arrest Suspect Over Gruesome Killing of 18-Month-Old Girl in Ondo

Residents of Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State have been thrown into shock following the brutal killing of an 18-month-old girl whose body was allegedly mutilated by unidentified assailants at a farm settlement in the area.
The tragic incident occurred at Agoti Settlement, a farming community in Idanre, where the victim lived with her parents.
The father of the deceased, Mr. Bright Kalu, a peasant farmer from Abia State, has called on the government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the heinous crime are brought to justice.
According to Kalu, the toddler was in the care of her mother at their farm camp while he was away working on another farmland located some distance from the settlement.

Recounting the incident, the distraught father said he returned from a nearby camp, where he had gone to purchase food items, only to meet his wife in a state of panic.
He said his wife informed him that an unknown individual had invaded the camp and attacked her. Although she managed to save three of their children, the youngest child could not be found.
Kalu explained that he immediately mobilised his elder brother, Mr. Ifeanyi Kalu, and together they joined the search for the missing child.
The search later ended in tragedy when the lifeless body of the toddler was discovered behind their residence, with her head reportedly severed.
The grieving father appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies and human rights organisations to intervene and ensure justice for the slain child.
He disclosed that the case was first reported at the Olofin Police Station in Idanre before it was transferred to the State Police Headquarters in Akure for further investigation.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said a suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident.
Jimoh stated that investigations were ongoing and assured that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the police inquiry.
