Fake Security Operative Arrested in Akure, Gun and Live Cartridges Recovered
Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man allegedly posing as a security operative and recovered a locally made firearm with live ammunition during a coordinated operation in Akure, the state capital.
The suspect, identified as Adepoju Pelumi, was apprehended on February 10, 2026, by officers attached to the Command Special Operations Squad (CSOS) while on routine patrol at the Onyearugbule Under Bridge area of Akure. According to the police, he allegedly presented himself as a security personnel and was found with a forged identity card.
Police sources disclosed that the discovery raised suspicion, prompting further investigation. Acting on established operational procedures, the operatives carried out a duly authorized search at the suspect’s residence in the Igoba area of Akure.
During the search, officers reportedly recovered a locally made single-barrel gun, three live cartridges, and charms suspected to be linked to criminal activities.
The suspect was said to have failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding possession of the firearm and other recovered items during preliminary interrogation. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine possible criminal affiliations and establish further culpability. Authorities confirmed that he will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the swift and professional conduct of the CSOS operatives, reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance stance against impersonation, unlawful possession of firearms, and other criminal activities.
He also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for sustained operational support and strategic leadership aimed at strengthening proactive policing nationwide.
