OSOPADEC Chairman Advises Students to Embrace Faith, Self-Belief at CRISSA Redeemer’s Day

The Executive Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Biyi Poroye, has urged students to build their lives on faith, courage, and self-confidence rather than comparing their progress with others.
Poroye gave the advice while delivering the keynote address at the 2026 Redeemer’s Day celebration of Christ The Redeemer’s International Secondary School (CRISSA) in Akure on Saturday.
Speaking to students, teachers, and guests at the event, the OSOPADEC chairman cautioned young people against measuring their achievements by the timelines of others.
“Do not run your life by another person’s calendar,” he said, explaining that every individual’s journey is different and should be guided by patience, faith, and determination.
The programme, themed “Lord of All,” drawn from the biblical text Jeremiah 32:27, focused on spiritual reflection and personal growth, encouraging students to pursue their goals with confidence and trust in God.
Poroye commended CRISSA for maintaining a strong reputation for academic excellence and character development, noting that the institution has continued to combine quality education with moral and spiritual values.
“The image of this school is outstanding,” he said, expressing confidence that the institution would continue to nurture responsible and successful young leaders.
Sharing a personal experience, Poroye recounted how he once transferred his daughter to the school, a decision he said positively influenced her academic performance, enabling her to pass both the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination at her first attempt.
He stressed that a conducive learning environment plays a significant role in shaping students’ academic success.
The OSOPADEC chairman also applauded teachers for their dedication, describing teaching as a divine calling that requires patience, commitment, and courage.
“Teaching is a divine assignment,” he said, adding that God rewards those who faithfully carry out their responsibilities.
He concluded by encouraging students to develop clarity of purpose and remain confident in their unique paths in life.
“Know yourself. Know the calling and assignment God has given to you,” Poroye advised.
Redeemer’s Day is an annual event at CRISSA that provides a platform for reflection, thanksgiving, and motivation for students to pursue their academic and personal aspirations with faith and discipline.
