Our Vision is to Produce Digital Graduates with 21st *Century Skills —OAUSTECH VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa has reiterated that the vision of his administration is to produce bilingual graduates with twenty-first century skills.

Prof. Ologunorisa made the disclosure during the University’s 12th Matriculation on Thursday, 25 May, 2023, saying he envisioned a university that is first among equals, most preferred and making significant contributions to society.

He charged the newly matriculated students to key into the vision and mission of the University which reads: “to be a leading internationally recognised University raising a corpus of technologically competent individuals, able to respond to the needs of their environment in a technological driven economy. While the mission is to provide sound scientific, technological and professional training, identify them within the context of community and national needs and sustainable development.”

According to him, the students are the very first set of students he would be admitting into the University during his tenure, which began over a year ago.

“You are in the right place to acquire the right skills to develop yourselves and our society,” the VC assured.

Prof. Ologunorisa reminded the students that the distance between the matriculation and convocation is about four to five years, depending on their programme and, therefore, advised them that it is important the journey ends well.

“To ensure this, you need to be regular in attendance at lectures, carrying out all your assignments, shunning deviant behaviours and other vices that can expose you and others to danger. This University has zero tolerance for cultism, any form of hooliganism, and corruption.”

“Show respect to your colleagues and staff in the University to make your day fruitful and productive. Be modest and decent in your dressing and approach to issues and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations enshrined in the students’ handbook,” the VC further advised.

Enjoining them to be of good conduct throughout their stay in the University, the VC warned that a breach of the matriculation oath by any students would definitely attract appropriate sanctions.

The first citizen of OAUSTECH assured the students of maximum security on campus, asking them never to hesitate reporting any suspicious activity to the security and all other appropriate authority on campus.

Earlier in his address, the US Scholar of Extraordinary Ability congratulated the students for being among the fortunate 1,545 candidates offered admission into the University out of about 2,000 that applied, having been found successful in the mandatory Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Rounding off the address, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON for his immeasurable goodwill and continuous efforts to ensure that OAUSTECH tapped into the Tetfund intervention and many others that have paid off for the University.

Principal Officers of the institution attended the ceremony: Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. David Aworinde; Acting Registrar, Mr. Idowu Omowole; Acting Bursar, Mr. Ganiyu Aminu; and University Librarian, Prof. Fredrick Ajegbomogun.

Other University officials were: Dean, Students Affairs, Prof. Orimoloye Faleyimu; Dean, School of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (SAFNR), Prof. Oluyemisi Akinyemiju represented by Dr. E. K. Asaniyan; Acting Dean, School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, Dr. Isaac Olaniyan; Dean, School of Management Sciences, Prof. Adewole Adeyeye; and Acting Dean, School of Science, Prof. Ilemobayo Oguntimehin.
