Just in: Police rescue two abduction victims, suspects on the run
The Ondo State Police Command has rescued two victims from an abduction incident in Akure and has launched a manhunt for the suspected kidnappers, following a swift response by tactical operatives of the Command.
According to the Police, the incident occurred on Friday, January 24, 2026, at about 9:45 a.m. in the Eleyewo area of Akure, where four men identified as Adesola Emiloye (45), Jimoh Akinlolu (35), Ebenezer Oloro (43), and another individual whose identity is yet to be confirmed, were reportedly ambushed by two armed men while working at a site.
A distress call received at the Ondo State Police Command Control Room prompted the immediate deployment of tactical teams to the area. The operation led to the successful rescue of two of the victims, as well as the recovery of their motorcycles. The remaining two victims reportedly escaped into the bush, while efforts are ongoing to ensure their safety and apprehend the perpetrators.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to public safety, the Ondo State Police Command stated that the state will never serve as a safe haven for criminal elements, stressing that offenders will always be identified, tracked, and brought to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, commended the effective collaboration between the Police and the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), noting that the synergy has continued to strengthen crime prevention and public safety across the state.
He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his leadership and ongoing policing reforms, which have enhanced intelligence sharing and operational efficiency nationwide.
Commending the operatives involved in the rescue, the Commissioner described their response as professional and timely, reflecting the Command’s improved operational capacity.
The Police further urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible and actionable information to aid crime prevention and detection.
