Police Smash Car Theft Ring, Recover Stolen Vehicle in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has dismantled a suspected car theft syndicate in Akure, arresting two individuals and recovering a stolen Toyota Camry.
The breakthrough followed a report lodged on February 27, 2026, by Adeyemi Robert, who alleged that his Toyota Camry with registration number AH173WWD was stolen during a social event on Sijuade Street, Akure, on February 14.
Police detectives immediately launched an investigation, deploying intelligence-driven strategies to track down the vehicle and those behind the theft.
Their efforts led to the arrest of a 40-year-old suspect, Awolo Akingbade, who was found in possession of the stolen car. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been sold to him by the principal suspect, Adeyemi David, who was subsequently apprehended.
Preliminary findings indicate that Adeyemi David allegedly stole the vehicle before selling it. The stolen car has since been recovered and secured as exhibit, while both suspects have provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
The police confirmed that the suspects have been charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
He also warned individuals involved in criminal activities to desist, stressing that the police will continue to deploy intelligence-led approaches to track and prosecute offenders.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to help curb crime.
