Accord Chairman Accuses Rival of Working for APC, Urges Osun Voters to Reject Intimidation
The Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Pastor Victor Akande, has urged voters across the state to remain calm and fearless during the election, assuring them that security agencies have been deployed to protect lives and property.
Akande, who spoke during an interview ahead of the election, also dismissed the claim of a factional leadership within the Accord Party, describing Christopher Imumolen as an impostor and insisting that the only recognised National Chairman of the party is Maxwell Balsa.
According to him, Imumolen did not participate in the party’s screening exercise or convention held on August 24, 2024, and was subsequently expelled from the party after allegedly taking the party to court without exhausting its internal dispute-resolution mechanism.
He said a case instituted by Imumolen was struck out by the court on July 17, 2025, for lack of evidence, adding that the former member had since ceased to belong to the Accord Party.
Akande further alleged that Christopher Imumolen was being used by the opposition, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), to create confusion within the Accord Party.
He said his appearance at a recent political event, where he allegedly removed an Accord Party cap and wore the cap of another political party, had further strengthened his claim.
“How could a logical-thinking person, claiming to be a national chairman of your party, remove the cap of the party, throw it away and put on the cap of another party?” Akande asked.
The Accord chairman said the development would not distract his party from its political objective, insisting that the people of Osun State were aware of the situation.
On the election, Akande called on voters not to be intimidated, saying the presence of the police, military and other security agencies should give them confidence to come out and vote.
He urged voters to cast their ballots, protect their votes and conduct themselves peacefully at their respective polling units.
“There is no might anywhere. The only might that exists is with God,” he said, adding that his party was not intimidated by the presence or influence of political opponents.
Akande expressed confidence that the election would be free, fair and credible, provided voters were allowed to exercise their franchise without violence or intimidation.
He also dismissed allegations of vote-buying as political propaganda, while accusing the APC of allegedly giving money to residents and collecting their Permanent Voter Cards.
The Accord chairman said his party was not involved in such activities, maintaining that the achievements of the incumbent governor were sufficient to secure the support of the electorate.
He described the governor’s administration as a government with a “human face,” claiming that the administration had performed well across different sectors of the state.
Akande therefore appealed to voters to support the governor’s continued administration, while reiterating his call for peaceful participation in the election.
“I am Pastor Victor Akande, Osun State Accord Chairman,” he stated.
