The Ondo State Government has released funds to implement the 2025 Federal Government agreement with university-based staff unions at the state-owned tertiary institutions, beginning with workers of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa.
The development covers the payment of arrears and consequential adjustments arising from the agreement reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
The Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, disclosed this in Okitipupa on Tuesday, saying the funds had been made available for immediate payment to eligible workers.
Ologunorisa commended the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for approving the release of the funds, describing the development as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare and tertiary education.
He said, “On behalf of the Management, Senate and Congregation of OAUSTECH, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, for releasing funds for the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government agreement with ASUU, NASU, SSANU and NAAT.”
The Vice-Chancellor said the implementation would contribute to industrial harmony and improved staff morale in the university.
He assured workers that the university management would ensure the immediate disbursement of the funds to all beneficiaries, while urging staff to reciprocate the gesture with increased dedication and productivity.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of ASUU, OAUSTECH Branch, Dr. Toyin Ogunbamike, described the implementation as a welcome development that would boost staff morale.
“This is highly commendable. The implementation of the 2025 FG/ASUU agreement by the Ondo State Government shows that the present administration listens to our plight,” Ogunbamike said.
The NASU Chairman, OAUSTECH Branch, Mr. Kunle Akinwonmi, also commended the government, saying the payment had restored confidence among workers.
“We thank His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for keeping to his promise on workers’ welfare. We also appreciate the Vice-Chancellor for his relentless follow-up,” he said.
Similarly, the Secretary of SSANU, OAUSTECH Branch, Mr. Ajayi Agboola, said the implementation would help strengthen industrial peace on campus.
“The payment of the 2025 agreement is timely. We are grateful to the Governor for releasing the funds and to the Vice-Chancellor for his transparent leadership,” Agboola stated.
The Chairman of NAAT, OAUSTECH Branch, Mr. Davis Bamgbola, described the development as a positive step for university workers and commended both the state government and university management.
The four unions pledged continued cooperation with the university management in advancing the institution’s academic and administrative objectives.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the Directorate of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, OAUSTECH, Okitipupa.
