Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive and equitable development with the commissioning of major road and healthcare projects in Akoko and Owo as part of activities marking his first year in office.
The governor on Friday inaugurated the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road in Oka-Akoko and a cluster of road projects in Owo Local Government Area, declaring that infrastructure development remains central to his government’s blueprint for progress across the state.
Describing the projects as significant milestones in his first anniversary celebrations, Aiyedatiwa thanked God for what he termed remarkable achievements within a short time in office.
He said his administration has initiated and completed numerous projects that have positively impacted residents, adding that the newly commissioned roads reflect his resolve to deliver durable infrastructure that improves the wellbeing of the people.
According to him, the approximately six-kilometre Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road is a multi-million-naira project executed with high-quality materials to withstand daily traffic, including heavy-duty vehicles. He noted that the road serves as a strategic transportation link in Akoko, particularly for the movement of agricultural produce within and outside the state.
Given Akokoland’s rich agricultural potential, the governor said improving the corridor became imperative to ensure timely transportation of farm produce and preservation of economic value. He also recalled that the dualisation of the Akungba–Ikare Road was flagged off last year as part of broader infrastructural expansion in the axis, expressing optimism that it would be delivered within schedule.
In Owo, the governor commissioned Opomulero Road, Iselu and Isuada Road in a triple ceremony, describing the projects as symbols of renewed hope, restored dignity and steady progress. He noted that years of dilapidation had imposed hardship on residents and constrained productivity.
The projects, spanning about 3.5 kilometres, include the construction and rehabilitation of Falodun Road, Kajola Road and Iselu–Isuada Road, aimed at enhancing connectivity, stimulating commerce, reducing travel time and improving access within Owo town.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance under the OUR EASE policy thrust, Aiyedatiwa assured that no community would be sidelined, stressing that his government is guided by fairness, equity and shared prosperity. He highlighted strides recorded in roads, education, healthcare, agriculture and commerce.
He urged communities to take ownership of the projects and guard against vandalism, pledging sustained engagement to build a peaceful and prosperous Ondo State.
Through his deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami, the governor also commissioned an upgraded Primary Health Care facility and newly constructed staff quarters in Owo Local Government Area, describing the development as a testament to his administration’s dedication to equitable healthcare delivery.
He disclosed that under the OUR EASE Agenda, 112 primary healthcare centres across the state are undergoing structured upgrades, with 51 already completed.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, said the commissioning ceremonies underscored the administration’s firm commitment to infrastructural transformation within one year in office, urging residents to safeguard public assets.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, commended the governor for health sector initiatives including transactional ambulances, a 24-hour solar-powered water system and provision of staff quarters for health workers.
Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Francis Akanbiemu, noted that it was the first time in the state’s history that a governor constructed staff quarters for health personnel.
Chairman of Akoko South-West Local Government, Ayo Ajana, described the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road as evidence of purposeful leadership, while Acting Chairman of Owo Local Government, Ibrahim Ahmed, said the governor had exceeded residents’ expectations.
The Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, congratulated the governor on the state’s 50th anniversary and commended him for completing the Aiyegunle–Iwaro Oka Road, which he said previous administrations failed to deliver.
Similarly, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, lauded the governor for infrastructural improvements and strategic appointments of Owo indigenes, noting that enhanced road networks and solar lighting have boosted economic activities.
Dignitaries at the events included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji; Chief of Staff, Prince Segun Omojuwa; Head of Service, Mr. Bayo Philip; members of the State Executive Council and House of Assembly; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Ade Adeogun; Director-General, OSRC Media Group, Mr. Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson; Chairman, SUBEB, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan; Chief Jamiu Ekungba; Senator Remi Okunrinboye; as well as traditional and religious leaders.
